We're Not in Texas Anymore

My plan for daily updates to this blog has been thwarted by my enthusiasm for home improvement.  We received the keys to our house on Tuesday morning and have been steadily busy making changes ever since.  To date we've ordered new counter tops, visited 3 tile stores to pick out a back splash, had our carpets cleaned, gotten cable installed, tested 6 paint colors and spoken with several contractors about refinishing our cabinets.  We've made more trips to Home Depot than I can count and I can now add changing door knobs to my list of finely tuned skills.  It has been busy to say the least.  This weekend will be dedicated to painting almost every flat service in the house; check back on my enthusiasm level after it's over.  Once this initial onslaught of home improvement is over, I should have more time for blogging. For now, I'll leave you with some differences I've noticed about not being in Texas anymore.

Most of these are related to food which makes sense as we've been having to eat out every meal.  I am proud to say that we just invested in a $15 pot from Target so I'll be able to throw together some one pot meals until our stuff arrives. 

  • While the Mexican food may be edible and the fajitas even considered decent, don't confuse an appetizer called melted cheese with true queso 
    Melted cheese was an appropriate name. Nachos would have been another.
  •  You may receive crazy looks while requesting pickles for your $15 (yes, you read that right) sliced beef sandwich at the local barbeque joint.  They may then offer you fried pickles...

  • There is no Chick-Fil-A or Whataburger in the entire state.  In a desperate attempt for a chicken biscuit for breakfast, don't go to McDonalds.  Chicken biscuits are not on the menu and requesting one will again get you a crazy look. Said McDonald's will also have a covered drive thru.

    My favorite difference is the stunning views.
    These are the soccer fields near our house. The mountains never get old.
